Periodontal Maintenance
Periodontal maintenance, provided by our dental hygienist, is a specialized cleaning procedure designed to maintain your gum and bone health following treatment of your periodontal disease. Unlike regular cleanings, which are preventative in nature, periodontal maintenance is designed to manage and prevent the re-emergence of gum disease. In addition, patients are provided with personalized instructions on how to best care for their teeth and gums at home.
The frequency of periodontal maintenance appointments will vary depending on the individual needs of the patient, but is typically every 3-4 months. Maintaining the health that is achieved after treatment is crucial for overall health, as gum disease has been linked to several other health problems such as heart disease, diabetes and Alzheimer’s.
